Who runs this site
myfancynumber.com is an independent, individually-run website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any government department, Regional Transport Office, or the Parivahan portal. For anything on this page, write to [email protected].
What the site measures
The site counts visits using its own software running on its own server. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, and no third-party tracking script of any kind. For each page view it records:
- the page address, without any query string
- which site referred you, as a domain only (for example
google.com) — never the full referring address - broad device information from your browser: mobile, tablet or desktop, plus browser and operating system name
- your approximate location — country, region and city — as estimated from your IP address by our network provider. This is city-level at best and often wrong by some distance; it is not your address and not GPS. The provider also offers coordinates and a postal code, which we deliberately do not read or store
- how the page performed for you — loading and responsiveness timings your browser reports
- if the page fails in your browser, the error: its message, the technical trace of which of our own code files it came from, and the page it happened on. This is how we find out something is broken without waiting for someone to tell us. The trace describes our software, not you — nothing you typed and nothing from your device is included, and errors coming from browser extensions rather than from this site are discarded rather than stored
How visits are counted without identifying you
To tell one visitor from another without cookies, the site converts your IP address and browser description into a short irreversible code. That conversion is mixed with a secret value that changes every midnight, so the code representing you today cannot be matched to the code representing you tomorrow. Your IP address is never written to the database.
This is a deliberate trade: it means we cannot tell whether someone is a returning visitor, and multi-day visitor counts are approximate. We prefer that to tracking people. The one exception is when you choose to sign in, described below.
Searches
When you check a registration number, the site records the number you searched, the state, and whether anything was found. This is how we learn which numbers people want that aren't available — it is the main reason the measurement exists. These records are not linked to your identity.
What stays in your browser
If you are not signed in, a few things are stored locally by your browser and are not uploaded: your light/dark theme preference; if you use Lucky for me, the people you match numbers to (a label such as “Me” or “Amma”, and a date of birth or a name); and the numbers you save (each 4-digit number with its state, and the office if you saved it from one) — so you don't have to type them again. Clearing your browser data removes them. None of it is in our database unless you sign in, as described below. If you wrote to us in Chat with us before it needed signing in, your browser also keeps a random code that lets it find that conversation again (described under Chat with us).
Links the site makes never contain a date or a name. When the home page sends you to an RTO page with your numerology applied, the web address carries only a marker saying “apply it”; the date is read from your browser. Some older links did include the date — if you open one, the page removes it from the address straight away, and it is stripped before anything is saved to our measurement records.
Signing in: saved people, saved numbers and alerts
Every public page works without an account. Google sign-in is optional and adds three things, and a record of which days you used the site.
Saved people. When you are signed in, the people you save for Lucky for me — each one's label, date of birth or name, and which of the two to use — are stored with your account, so they are there on any device and survive clearing your browser. Anything you saved in this browser before signing in is added to your account when you sign in (up to eight people). You can edit or remove each person at any time on your account page or from any office page. They are used only to work out which numbers suit them, are never shown to anyone else, and are never used for anything else. Signing out removes this browser's copy; your account keeps them until you delete them.
Saved numbers. When you are signed in, the numbers you save — each 4-digit number, its state, the office if you saved it from one, and the order you put them in — are stored with your account, so your first choice and backups are there on any device. Numbers you saved in this browser before signing in are added to your account when you sign in (up to twenty). You can reorder or remove them at any time on your account page or from any office page. They are used only to show you where each number is in the pool. Signing out removes this browser's copy.
Number alerts. If a number you search for isn't open at an office today, you can ask to be emailed when it appears, and that needs an address to send to.
When you save an alert we store the number, the office, the page you saved it from and the date. Once the number is open at that office we send you one email saying so, with a link back to the office page. Nothing promotional is ever sent. You can see, remove and re-arm every alert at any time on your account page; removing one deletes it outright.
The same news also appears in the inbox behind the bell at the top of every page, so you see it even if you never open the email: when a number you are watching is in an office's pool, and when a number we told you about is no longer in that office's pool (we then watch for it again). Each one records the number, the office and the date of the pool; when you open the inbox we look up where the number stands in the current pool. They are deleted after 120 days, or with your account.
Days you used the site. While you are signed in, we keep, for each day you use the site, how many pages you viewed, how many numbers you checked, how many times you went on to the Parivahan portal, and the time of your first and last visit that day. It does not record which pages or which numbers — those records stay anonymous, as described above. It tells us whether accounts are worth having to the people who make them, is seen only by the site's operator, and is deleted with your account.
Chat with us
You can send us a message from Chat with us, at the bottom corner of every page, once signed in — so there is always somewhere to send our answer. We keep each message, the page you sent it from (without any query string), the time, and our replies, so the conversation is there when you come back. Only the site's operator reads them. When a new message arrives we email ourselves its text through the email provider named below — never your email address or name. When we reply, we email the reply to you through the same provider, with a link back to the conversation; if you haven't read that one yet, further replies wait in the chat instead of each sending another email.
Earlier, people could write without signing in. Those conversations are reachable only from the browser that wrote them, through a random code it keeps (we store only a scrambled form of it); signing in from that browser moves the conversation to the account. Messages are kept until you ask us to delete them — write in the chat or to [email protected] — or until you delete your account.
Google user data, in detail
Signing in uses Google's standard sign-in with the basic "openid", "email" and "profile" permissions only. This section sets out exactly what that involves.
What we receive
- your Google account's email address
- your name, as set on your Google account
- the address of your profile picture
- Google's internal identifier for your account, so a change of name or picture does not create a second account
We never receive your Google password, and we request no access to Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Contacts, YouTube or any other Google service. We cannot read, send or delete anything in your Google account.
What we use it for
- Email address: to deliver the alert emails you ask for and our replies to your chat messages, and to show you which address they go to. That is its only use.
- Name and picture: to recognise you on your account page. They are not shown to anyone else.
- Account identifier: to keep your saved people, saved numbers, alerts and the days you used the site attached to your account across sign-ins.
How it is stored and protected
Account details, saved people, saved numbers, alerts and visit days are stored in a database on the server that runs this site, hosted by Hetzner in Finland. The database is not reachable from the internet; the site reaches it over a private network. All traffic between your browser and the site is encrypted (HTTPS). Your sign-in is kept in a signed cookie that only this site can read, and it expires on its own.
Who it is shared with
- Resend, the transactional email service that delivers alert emails and chat replies. It receives your email address and the text of each such email in order to send it, and nothing else about you.
- Nobody else. See the complete list of providers below.
Google user data is never sold, rented, used for advertising, used to build profiles, shared with data brokers, or used to train or improve any machine-learning model. It is not transferred to any third party except the email provider named above, and only for delivering the emails you asked for. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How long it is kept, and how to delete it
Account details, saved people, saved numbers, alerts and the record of days you used the site are kept until you delete them. You can delete your whole account yourself, instantly, with the Delete my account button on your account page: it permanently removes your name, email address, picture, Google identifier, sign-in records, every saved person, every saved number, every alert, every inbox notification, your chat conversation and the record of your visits from our database, clears that browser's copy, and signs you out. You can also revoke the site's access from your Google account's "Third-party apps & services" page at any time, or email [email protected] and we will delete the account for you within 7 days.
Cookies
Ordinary browsing sets no cookies at all, which is why you see no cookie banner. Cookies are only set if you sign in, and they exist purely to keep you signed in.
Who else can see your data
- Hetzner — hosts the server, in Finland. This means data about your visit is processed outside India.
- Cloudflare — sits in front of the site to make it faster and to absorb attacks, so it processes your requests and can see your IP address. It is also what estimates your country, region and city from that address before passing the request to us.
- Google — only if you choose to sign in, to confirm who you are. Google's own privacy policy governs what Google records about that sign-in.
- Resend — only if you save an alert, to deliver the alert email to you; and, for chat, to tell us a new message has arrived (the message text only) and to email you our reply.
That is the complete list. Nothing is sold, rented, or shared for advertising. Web fonts are served from this site's own server, so merely loading a page does not tell any font provider you were here.
How long anything is kept
- Individual visit records: 90 days. They are then permanently deleted.
- Daily totals: kept indefinitely. These are counts only — no identifiers of any kind survive into them.
- Account details, saved people, saved numbers and alerts: kept until you delete them — yourself from your account page, or by asking us.
- Inbox notifications: 120 days.
- Chat messages: until you ask us to delete them, or with your account.
Your choices
Write to [email protected] to ask what is held about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. Because visit records carry no lasting identifier, we usually cannot locate "your" rows within them — that is a consequence of the design rather than an evasion. Account details we can find, and you can delete them yourself from your account page at any time — and edit your saved people there whenever you like.
A browser content blocker will stop the measurement script from running at all, and the site works normally without it.
Where the registration data comes from
Number availability, series and fees are taken from publicly accessible government sources, chiefly the Parivahan portal and state transport department publications. No personal information about vehicle owners or applicants is collected, stored, or displayed.
Children
This site is intended for adults arranging vehicle registration and is not directed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes with it.
